NURSING

Nurses play a vital role in supporting people with disabilities. By providing a range of services, nurses can help people with disabilities to improve their health and well-being, increase their independence, improve their quality of life, and reduce stress and anxiety. Nurses can also help people with disabilities to participate more fully in social activities and educational opportunities and improve their employment opportunities.

Benefits

  • Nurses can help with medical care and treatment. For examplemanaging chronic conditions, providing wound care and administering medications.

  • Nurses can help access the right services and supports. Nurses have a deep understanding of the healthcare system and can help people with disabilities navigate the system to get the services they need. For example, a nurse can help a person with a disability to connect with a particular service provider or to advocate for their rights.

  • Nurses can provide support and advocacy for people with disabilities by advocating for their rights and ensuring that they are getting the services they need. For example, a nurse can help a person with a disability to write a letter to their NDIS plan manager, to attend a meeting with their service provider, or to file a complaint with the NDIS Commission.

  • Nurses can educate people with disabilities and their families about their condition and how to manage it. For example, a nurse can teach a person with a disability how to use a wheelchair, how to manage their medication, or how to cope with a chronic illness.

  • Nurses can provide emotional support for people with disabilities and their families and help cope with the challenges of living with a disability. For example, a nurse can provide emotional support to a person who is struggling to cope with their condition, or to a family member who is caring for a loved one with a disability.

  • Nurses can help people with disabilities to improve their health and well-being, increase their independence, improve their quality of life, and reduce stress and anxiety. Nurses can also help people with disabilities to participate more fully in social activities and educational opportunities, and improve their employment opportunities

How we can help

We can help with general nursing care that can include a whole range of supports, such as showering assistance. Our nurses will work closely with your doctor and assist with the coordination of any scheduled medical and other allied health professionals appointments.

We can also provide advice and education on appropriate safety equipment for the home and refer you to an occupational therapist for specialist equipment, if required.

These are just some examples of the medical support a trained nurse can deliver. You can access many more services under your NDIS plan, depending on your individual needs and circumstances.

Get in touch with us for a chat about how you can benefit from the support of a nurse.
